When AEDC was established in the summer of 2012, the founding leadership team drafted a preliminary set of bylaws. These were a good start, but needed refinement to provide AEDC with the strongest foundation possible for a professional community with enhanced communication and interaction among art educators, artists, visual arts institutions, and other stakeholders. In the spring of 2014, the AEDC board hired Strategy Arts, a national strategic planning firm, to work with an AEDC task force to craft a vibrant, thoughtful and transparent set of laws to govern our association. We consulted with the leadership of NAEA about best practices, researched other state bylaws, went through the AEDC bylaws line by line, refined and reviewed several drafts, and had the 2014 bylaws ratified by the AEDC membership.
